Permanent Access System

The Edge is a fast-track project on a new prestigious apartment development in Manchester. A permanent Access System was required capable of accessing the complex glass facade that included balconies at every level. The Alternative Access Logistics solution was to mount offset brackets with a “crown” of aluminium track to the top of the building, following the profile throughout.

The access system integrates seamlessly into the building’s form.

The “ski-slope” is raked at 30 degrees, however this does not prove to be a problem for the solid aluminium KOT-106 track. The powerful IL-400 Interlift track motors can negociate vertical climbs under considerable load and in complete safety.

The cradle was specifically designed to prevent damage to the cladding and glass pannels and incorporates an integrated control system for accurate manoeuvring.

The design of brackets and tracks complement the building aesthetic.

The unique flexibility of the aluminium track allowed for bends and twists vertically and horizontally. This allowed for the correct orientation of the suspended cradle at all times without the need for operatives to stop works, reposition or redeploy. The access system stays in close proximity to the facades.
