Transmission Tower Access
Bespoke temporary Access Platform
Client: Babcock Network
Date: June 2008
How exactly is a high voltage transmission tower maintained? This was the access challenge that was put forward to Alternative Access Logistics.
Negotiating these cage-like towers with severely restricted access and obstructive cable equipment is required for on going maintenance, inspection and repair work.
The AAL solution was an innovative access platform.
A 21 metre long aluminium platform was required to permit access with the required operatives and equipment to the crown of the transmission towers.
The platforms needed to be easily transportable and manoeuvreable in order to move within the restricted space available between structure and cables.
The AAL solution was to use a lightwieght yet stiff platform with an expandable spine that permitted the platform to fold into itself as it is hoisted into position.
All components of the platform were designed and manufactured by AAL to the exacting specifications of the client.
